Memorial Day Weekend

Greetings from Lexington.

We had a very nice holiday weekend and hope you all did also. Last week, I gave Grace a haircut for the first time. And, surprisingly, it came out pretty well! I decided to trim the back of her hair after she took a bath so I snipped away while she was playing with her bath toys. After we were finished, I rinsed her off and whalah! A nice free haircut! Here she is not only showing off her new hair do but also showing off her new suit!

We finished landscaping our front yard Saturday morning and then just relaxed the rest of the day. Sunday, we watched the Indy 500 at our house and then headed to Dylan's house to have a cookout. We dressed the kids in suits to see if they would play in the sprinklers but they mostly preferred to stay out of the cold water.

Grace insisted on wearing her rain coat and boots over to Dylan's house. It's especailly funny because it was sunny and 80 degrees outside!

Daddy was able to get Grace into the sprinkler but she sure wasn't having fun. She mostly spent the afternoon playing on Dylan's slide. Hope you enjoy the pictures- Love, Jen

And again- sorry for the delay

Gosh, a lot has happened since the last blog. We have most of the painting finished inside and have landscaped our front yard. And yes, we even have grass! We will plant trees in the back yard a little later this year. The front looks amazing- we've planted a weeping cherry in the front yard and then a patio lilac tree, a bonanza patio peach tree, and a japanese maple in our front flower beds. Then lots of add'l bushes, grasses, flowers, etc. to finish it off. Looks wonderful!

Grace's 2nd birthday party was a hit! We were so blessed to have so many family members make the drive down to help us celebrate! We really hope everyone enjoyed themselves! Grace is so lucky to have so many people that love her.

We've finally found a pediatrician here for her so her 2 year appt. was in Lexington! She weighed 23 lbs (8th %) and is 33" long (23rd %). Basically there are only 8% of kids smaller than she is for her age and 23% shorter than her. She is one petite little girl but is very healthy. At this appt. we again expressed our concerns about a possible language delay. Here's what we found out...

If a language delay is suspected, there are two steps to take. One is to go to an ear nose and throat doctor to test her hearing and the next is to have a language evaluator evaluate her. As of today, we've done both. After the ENT doctor, we've discovered that Grace has conductive hearing loss. Luckily, this is temporary. Basically she has fluid behind her eardrums so everything she hears sounds like she is hearing it under water. Our two options are to put tubes in her ears or let her outgrow it. Right now, we are leaning toward just letting her outgrow it but we are still gathering information about it.

The language therapist came to our house this morning and says that Grace is 6 months behind in her language development. She was kind-of surprised though because what Grace is doing is very strange and uncommon. She can say and pronounce letters when it's just the letter but when she tries to say a word with that letter in it, she can't say it. Very uncommon so she is going to do some checking tonight and talk with some other people and let us know tomorrow what we need to do. We also found out that although she is 6 months behind in her language, she is one year ahead in her gross motor skills. We've always known she was advanced in her motor skills but to find out that she can do things that a three year old can't do is pretty amazing!

Grace still loves to read books and play with her kitchen set. She also really likes pushing her doll stroller around the neighborhood (what a big girl)! She's busy doing puzzles too! She has three little buddies here- their names are Owen (2 years old), Dylan (1 year old), and Abigail (almost 2 years old). What fun to get them together! This is a picture of Grace and Owen at the soccer field. Adorable.

I'm going to try to update this blog once a week so give me a hard time if I miss a week- I always seem to get sidetracked! Love- Jen
